Richard Childress would support Kyle Busch running Indy 500/Coca-Cola 600 double in 2025

If Kyle Busch wants to race in the Indy 500 and Coca-Cola 600 next year, car owner Richard Childress would support the move. While speaking to NBC Sports this weekend, Childress talked about Busch possibly running the two big races in 2025.

“We’ve talked a little about it,” Childress said Sunday at North Wilkesboro Speedway. “The right opportunities, the right team, the right situation, we would do it and I’m sure Kyle would do it.” Childress added it was “Kyle’s call to make that decision. I’d support it for sure.”

Childress’ comments come one week before Kyle Larson competing in the Indy 500 and Coca-Cola 600. Busch came close to running both races in 2017 but car owner Joe Gibbs did not approve it. Kurt Busch, Kyle Busch’s brother, appeared in both races in 2014, and while he earned a sixth-place finish at the Indy 500, he did not finish the Coca-Cola 600 due to a blown engine.

Kyle Busch on his chances of racing in Indy 500

In May of last year, Busch talked to Fox Sports NASCAR reporter Bob Pockrass about his chances of competing in the Indy 500. “Larson got the ride that I was slated to get, (and) he’s got that locked up for two years, so I don’t know if it’ll ever happen,” he said, per the IndyStar.

“Unfortunate for me wanting to go there and run (the Indy 500). Had a sponsor lined up to do it with and been told ‘no’ everywhere. ‘We don’t have room,’ or whatever it might be. It’s really frustrating.”

Busch is in his second year with Richard Childress Racing after being with Joe Gibbs Racing from 2008 to 2022. In 2023, Busch finished 14th in the Cup Series standings, winning three races. This year, Busch has yet to bring home a victory, but he has five top-10 finishes and two top-five finishes.

“RCR has an impressive history in NASCAR and I’m honored that Richard is putting his trust in me to come in and continue to build on that legacy,” Busch said when he signed with Richard Childress Racing in 2022 . “Growing up in a family of passionate racers myself, I feel like the culture that the Childress family has built within their organization will be an ideal fit for me. As I begin the next chapter of my career, I’m looking forward to driving for RCR and working with everyone there to add more wins and championships to both of our resumes.”
